About Us
The Montreal Center is well located on Mont-Royal Ave (1580 Mont-Royal East Ave - near Papineau St.), in the heart of the Plateau – a trendy area, known for its nightlife, restaurants, unique boutiques and lively artistic ambiance, even in the harsh and snowy winters.
To get to the centre:
It is a 10 minutes pleasant walk east from the Mont Royal Metro station on the orange line. However, in winter we recommend you take the 97 bus east from the metro, to the corner of Mont-Royal Ave and Papineau St.
Our Courses
Our introductory courses run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for nine weeks. Tuesday evenings 2 courses are offered in French and Wednesday evenings the same 2 courses are offered in English. There are futher advanved courses available for those who are interested.
Our classes consist of a lecture and a practice. A balance of theory and practice is achieved by helping explain the different spiritual practices of the Gnostics, and then by trying these techniques as a group in order to gain real experience. A 10 minute question and answer session at the end of the class can help students with any questions or concerns regarding the technique.
Our courses are free of charge; we do welcome voluntarily donations however, all of which go towards the center’s rent and operating expenses.
To get the most out of our courses, what is required is an open mind, a one hour attendance per week, and to practice the course exercises provided in one’s own time; with just this, it is amazing what can be achieved in 9-weeks.
People of all ages and walks of life attend our courses; it is clear that age or background does not matter when there is a mutual interest in profound subjects.
We welcome all people of Quebec who are interested in learning and practicing The Gnostic Movement’s teachings to attend our courses, which are provided in both French and English for your convenience.
Group Practices
The practice sessions are held in our practice room, under dim lights with a subtle scent of quality incense. Our one hour practice sessions consist of, a few minutes of explaining the technique, then 35 minutes of its practical investigation, followed by a 10 minute open comment period. For more advance groups we have longer practice session where we investigate techniques more in depth. For the practice sessions we recommend dressing in smart casual wear at the same time ensuring that one is comfortable enough to be sitting still on cushions for the 1 hour period. The feedback after a practice is always interesting and constructive to all those participating. People often find it easier to practice at the centre rather than on their own due to the group strength.
A place to meet
In August 2005 it became evident that the centre needed a cafeteria, as people kept standing around the practice room having inspiring conversations. So we made a space in the reception area by dividing the main conference room with an elegant French door. The Café is now a lively area, where all those attending enjoy delicious and healthy home cooked meals and desserts before and after the classes. This is where they get to know each other and enjoy interesting and often profound conversations.
Please come
for the tasty home cooked meals served every week before our courses on Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 5pm. All profits go to help cover costs of the Centre.
Hope to see you there!
