Running Springs, California, United States - July 2005

Running Springs, California, United States

July 2005

This was the first International Retreat run in the United States and open to all courses. Students came mainly from Canada and the US, but international attendees also came from Ireland, Australia and Greece. The theme of the retreat was astral Projection.

Until now, Gnosticweb retreats have been open only to the students of the advanced courses so it was decided to invite all courses to this one to get everyone to benefit from these enriching retreats. By the end of the 4 days, it was evident that these types of retreats can be very beneficial to students, especially those studying online, because it makes things clearer, allowing them to practice in a group environment and interact closely with teachers and other students.

The aim was to astral project so daily and nightly exercises were done to promote astral experiences. Different techniques were practiced during the night and the efforts applied brought not only experiences for some, but also a deeper understanding of how the different astral techniques work, including visualization and concentration.

The day was mainly dedicated to talks and to the practice of awareness and reality checks and many were able to prove the direct connection between this and the ability to wake up within a dream. Students also got an insight into how much effort needs to be applied for things to work.

The retreat setting was very conducive to spiritual practices and talks. Situated in the mountain range of San Bernardino in Southern California, with spectacular views of the mountains and the valley, the quietness and seclusion helped to set the right environment for the goals at hand.

Student Comments

It was an amazing experience! Meeting so many new people was great! One thing that I know I took from the retreat was that I finally understood what it was and how it felt to put the esoteric path as my top priority. Having put the practices and staying aware in front of everything else for the first time, and just training everyday in a beautiful setting as natural as the mountains we stayed at, was just the strength I needed for my daily work in my hometown.

Thanks for all the time you guys spent with us at the retreat. It was very helpful to fine-tune the practices that have been taught on the online courses. I've gotten close to splitting but no cigar yet. The nights that I've gotten close on have been the days that I've been the most aware - what a coincidence.

Those awareness walks while being in the heart has helped me see thoughts coming in sooner as well as being able to hold an image while visualizing. It's like there is no effort at all. Before, when visualizing with the mind, the image would fade very quickly. Now I could hold it for at least 5 minutes before needing to look again. The group mantras that we did in a room had a lot of strength, different than being on your own doing them - that's for sure. Also, thanks to the other teachers and students from the U.S., Canada and abroad for sharing your experiences for it brought up questions that I couldn't formulate and it answered some too. I do hope to make it to another retreat in the future to yet fine-tune the practices.

Thanks for all your hard work during the retreat. It sure helped me stay focused on practice. I have since been able to practice much easier this week and YES, I got out yesterday and had a wild ride in the astral. A tornado like wind picked me up soon after I realized I was in the astral and I believe I was heading for the pyramids, as this is where I asked my divine mother to take me. But to no avail, my alarm went off soon afterwards! DUH!

Well, it was so great to be conscious again in the astral and I couldn't have done it without all of you. I think of you fondly...I hope to see everyone again soon.

This was my first retreat that I have ever attended and as a result I was a little nervous about how things were going to be. I was also not sure if would fit in with the crowd and what to expect, but as I got to know everybody I was amazed. So many different people with different interests and lives got together with a common goal and had so much fun while doing something really meaningful.

At the same time I was not sure how effective the retreat was going to be for me in the sense of being able to project, as I have not practiced for quite some time. I would have never thought that I would be able to learn so much about astral projection in such a short period of time. Even though I was not able to project throughout all the practices, I was able to learn the most important thing about astral projection and the path. It is our dedication and effort that will allow us to succeed not only in astral but in any thing we do in our lives. All we have to do is just dedicate all of our strength on what we consider to be the most important in our lives. Then we will be astonished by how much we can actually do if put ourselves into it.

P.S. I would like to thank personally Patricia, Brett and all the other teachers and trainees who took part in the retreat and also thank everybody for making this retreat one of the most enlightening experiences that I have ever had.

So far all the retreats I attended had been with the author of the courses, so I can't help but say that I had somewhat lower expectations for this one. To my pleasant surprise, they were wrong!

It was a good experience, and there was a lot of strength generated by people getting together to do spiritual things. I almost woke up in dreams several times, and had one dream where Ioannis told me how many times he had gotten out that night and how the experience was! And on the last night, I must have had my best heart concentration practice ever, even though I didn't make it out fully because of the noises of people moving and so on.

On a night a few nights after I got home, I managed to wake up in a dream, and shortly after that ended, I realized I was still in the astral. I came back quickly, but it was exciting to get an experience without waking up during the night again. It inspired me.

I was also surprised at how useful it was for my psychological work, since I've taken all the courses and aim for that too. The words 'astral Retreat' set me a little on edge in this regard, and I wasn't sure how much I would get out of it psychologically, which was personally more important to me. I got a lot, and this shows how important psychology is for astral projection.

I made new friends too - something that never gets old. I enjoyed hearing everyone's feedback when we were taking it.

I'm glad I went on this one because it's pushed me to try to do all I can to go on the next one, in Australia!

I've learned a little more about how the intellectual center works, and how I can use it more properly. I think this is a major stumbling block, and when I conquer this, will have many more doors open. I've learned more about psychology, seeing the broad scope of people that attended the retreat. Best of all, I enjoyed finally being able to tie everything I learned together into one cohesive set of practices.

As for how successful I was during the retreat, I would say that just getting motivated again to do the work was a great improvement. I had some small successes in watching the how sleep stages work, and how different mantras have an effect on me. But I've also had dream symbols shown to me and that is a great gift.

The other aspect I really loved was all the new friends I made. It was truly wonderful to be in a group of like minded people! I never knew such a little piece of happiness could exist in any corner of the world, seemingly against all odds.

I start the investigative course soon and keep my fingers crossed. But I guess it should be less about hoping and more about simple and effective hard work.

Thanks for everything, you all are wonderful people!

I'm happy to have met all of you... You are ALL such interesting and sensitive souls. It made me feel like an "insider" not an "outsider"... I eves-dropped on the young souls, with their comments about what was going on in their lives. Thank you all for sharing your energy, love and time with me. Hopefully, I will see you very soon! My door is always open.

A special thanks to Brett and Patricia and "the Jennifers." You are great teachers and doing what you love; I honor you.

I got interested in astral travel only a couple of months ago. The retreat gave me clear ideas of what needs to be done to achieve astral projection.
